Tonight was the “Come PLEY with YELP” event at the Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center. A gathering of Honolulu’s finest yelpers, and vendors for food and fun. There were also lots of donation boxes scattered around the building, the proceeds of which, went back to the center.
Although the event was at the “childrens” discovery center, there was not a little tyke to be found. Nope. Rather, a crowd of grown adults, getting to be kids again for the day. And i mean hundreds.
The event opened early for the Yelp Elite crowd, before opening to the general public. I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Elite event as a +1 thanks to the lady. But even showing up early, there was already a crowd outside.
Showing up early definitely had its perks. We basically had the entire center to ourselves for an hour, before the crowds poured in. This meant first shot at the food/drinks, a chance to “discover” the place early. And of course, first crack at all the Yelp schwag.
There was a photobooth c/o StarShots. complete with costumes. As well as Flipbooks Hawaii offering free photo flipbooks. This was definitely a new experience for me. A bit silly at first, but fun none the less.
There were so many other activites, that i wasnt able to partake in all of them. Massages, Glitter tattoos, Face painting, Balloon animals. So many things. And all on top of the center itself, which was a maze of adventures.
And no Yelp event would be complete without lots of food. And food there was! From restaurants/bars, right down to some of our favorite friends from Eat The Street.
Camille’s on Wheels was there offering both savory and sweet dishes. Meatloaf, Tacos, and of course, their famous pies. (follow them on twitter at @Camillesonwheel)
Pauls Poppers had a couple of their favorites on hand. My favorite were the jalapeno ones.
We got an assortment, and made our way to a bench to have a taste.
The pecan pie and mango pie from camille’s were fantastic as always. And those poppers were pretty tasty as well.Washed down with some locally brewed beer, and you got a winning combination.
So many more choices…
And cant forget the sweets.
Dessert + Bacon? YES!
Another one of our Eat The Street friends, Fairy Cakes, was on the scene with their tasty treats. ( @FAIRYCAKES808 )
What a great event. Music, Food, Fun and Friends, who could ask for more?
I left there tired from a combination of all the delicious food and drinks, and spending hours playing in the children’s center. And a beautiful pink Hawaiian sunset signified that it was getting to about that time.
Another amazing yelp event for the record books. Cant wit for the next one.
…until next time
