Coming Soon: Life at 50mm

Its been a while since I’ve given myself a photo challenge. Probably because I’m terrible at keeping up with them. I couldn’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve started a 365 challenge, and failed only a few weeks in. Some people will stop posting for days or weeks at a time, and just post a bunch of pictures at one time, but i feel like this defeats the entire purpose of the exercise. Even if you truly did take one photo each day, and post 2 weeks worth down the line, it still takes away a major element.

Now, I’m not knocking people who do it that way. At least they are still out shooting. But personally, if i cant keep up with it daily, i usually just stop.

For this and other reasons, i prefer to stick to the good ol’ project 50. (or the 50/50 photo challenge). Where the time is shortened to something much more manageable. 50 days of photos. The object of project 50, is to take 50 photos in 50 days. (one a day, like the 360, just on a smaller scale). And the best part is, once its over, you can start another one right away.

I like to take it a step further and do a 50/50/50. 50 photos in 50 days, all shot with a 50mm prime lens.

Enter one of my favorite lenses, the Canon 50mm f/1.4.

I have had the 50mm f/1.2L, and while its an amazing piece of glass, the price is just INSANE! Fortunately, in a pinch, i was able to sell it off, buy this, and have cash to spare. And honestly, I’ve never looked back. The build quality is slightly less than the 1.2L, but the images are still wonderful. If i had the cash to spend id probably pick up the f/1.2L again, but this one really does everything i need, and then some.

So i will once again be taking part in Project 50 shortly. I have a couple of things i have to take care of first, but as soon as that’s done, project 50 is a go!

Stay tuned, and feel free to join me!
