Memorial day rolled around, which means time again for the lantern floating festival at magic island.
This year there were apparently, over 40,000 people packed into Ala Moana Beach Park for the festivities. By the time i got there there was no room near the beach, so i made my way through the crowd towards the back of the park, to try and find a spot with some kind of view. Ending up well behind the main stage, i wasn’t able to get shots of most of the performers. However i still managed a few wide shots of the lantern floating.
I got a quick shot of the Tyco Drummers from the back of the stage. The shot isn’t impressive, but the drumming sure was.
There were a ton of cameras in my little corner. It was nice to see so many people appreciating and documenting the occasion.
A lucky cruise ship happened by during the opening ceremonies. while they were a little early for the lanterns, im sure they could see the huge crowds of people scattered across Ala Moana Beach.
Thousands of people along the shore, and even well into the water at Ala Moana Beach.
Mahalo for flying Hawaiian Airlines, but you left a little too soon
The last rays of sunlight means its about time for the festivities to begin.
Release the lanterns
Until next year…
